Create Better Images Workshops I & II
Friday, September 12, 2008

Kim and I are thrilled with how many of you out there have expressed interest in our next Create Better Images Photography Workshop! As we have mentioned previously, we will be doing another beginner workshop as well as an intermediate class on Saturday, November 1st. You can expect the registration forms & details to be posted to our blogs within the week so you can reserve your spots, but here is a little general overview information so you can plan as needed::

**Saturday, November 1, 2008**
Create Better Images Workshops

Beginner Workshop 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM
Kim Jarman Photography Studio - Mesa, AZ
We will be covering the fundamentals of photography: ISO, shutter speed and aperture and how they interrelate. Our goal is to get you shooting manually (and therefore more creatively), teaching you how to turn off your flash and getting images that pop and wow. To see the flyer from the last workshop for more details on the actual topics covered, please click here.

$169 ($149 "early bird rate" for those who register before Oct 12th)
Participants will need a camera, any lenses they have and their manual. SLR camera strongly recommended since we cover SLR camera functions.

Intermediate Workshop with Live Model Shoot 2:30 PM - 7:00 PM
Kim Jarman Photography Studio - Mesa, AZ
This workshop is for those who understand the fundamentals, as it will build upon all of those skills. We will review them, especially in live practice, but not spend as much time on the basics as the beginner class. Most importantly, we will have 2 models (a toddler and a high school senior) and will divide into 2 groups for the live shoot portion. This workshop will be very hands-on and after the shoot, you will actually process your images via Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop and share a few of them. We will review shooting techniques, posing suggestions, and go very in-depth with the actual shooting process. The detailed flyer will be posted with the registration form within the week.

$269.00 ($249 early bird rate for those who register before Oct 12th)
Participants must have (or rent) a digital SLR camera for this, as well as bring any lenses they have. We also ask that you bring a laptop since you will be processing your images. If you do not have a laptop, please let us know.

Both workshops are limited to 20 participants. Our goal is to make the workshops as interactive and friendly as possible, where attendees feel comfortable to ask questions and share in this small-group format.

All spots are first-come, first-serve after the forms are posted, so please watch our blogs in the next several days for the info. If you have previously emailed us expressing interest, you will receive info via email immediately preceding the registration blog post. Thank you for your interest! We hope to see you in November.

*************
We are looking for a toddler model for this shoot. Toddler must be between ages 1-1/2 and 4 and parent will be on-hand during shoot. Parents will receive free images on a disc including images from Jennifer, Kim and each of the participants. We advise that the toddler model not be one of the workshop participants' child. The reason is that the parent may not be able to disengage and focus as well on the shooting part if their child needs them.

Weekend Updates
Saturday, August 02, 2008

Happy weekend!

*Beach Session Cancellation*

I have a spot that opened up for the beach sessions in Manhattan Beach next week. If you live in the area or will be visiting the general LA beaches area between Aug 13-18 and would like to set up a session, please contact me at jen {at} jenniferphotography dot com for more info.

I will be over in California for two weeks visiting friends, doing these shoots, photographing a wedding in San Diego, and trying to cool down in those lovely beach breezes. I'll still be working from there, so please to contact me if you need anything.

*Fall Photography Workshops - Save the Date!*

I have been receiving lots of emails about our next photography workshop for beginners so I wanted to pass along some preliminary info, so you can "Save the Date!" Kim Jarman and I will be teaching two more workshops on November 1, 2008. One for beginners, just like this one, and one for intermediates, that will feature an actual shoot with live models and will work off the fundamentals taught from the beginners workshop. If you already took the beginner workshop, or know how your camera works pretty well, and just want to take your photography to the next level, this might be the one for you.

We will share more information in September about the times and more details, so please stay tuned. If you have sent me (or Kim) an email requesting more info, you will also receive an email from us sometime in September as well.

In the meantime, enjoy the rest of the summer!

Workshop Recap
Sunday, June 29, 2008

Kim and I held our first Photography Workshop for Beginners yesterday. We are so grateful to have met each of you and appreciate your great reviews and good feedback! Based on all you said, we feel it was a success and look forward to doing more in the future. Everyone said they learned something new and some of you felt it was a tremendous help to understanding your cameras and the fundamentals better through the hands-on instruction.

We will likely share some video clips in the coming days, but here a few snap shots from yesterday. Unfortunately the flash was inadvertently turned off on the point-and-shoot, so these pictures are pretty grainy and dark. (Thanks Katie, for helping to capture part of the day.)

**********

Future Workshops::

We will definitely hold another workshop or two in the fall; likely the beginners workshop again as well as a more intermediate version that will include models and a live shoot. As of now we do not have a date selected, but if you are interested in being on the mailing list for our future workshops, please send me an email and we'll make sure to keep you updated! All of you who attended yesterday will be automatically added.

Thank you to everyone who attended yesterday and helped make our first workshop a success! We can't wait to see your work and how you evolve from here!

Workshop Update
Thursday, June 19, 2008

There is just one week left before our workshop next Saturday! There are a few spots left for this great opportunity, so be sure to hurry and register if you are thinking of coming. While we may do another one in the future, the price or content may be different, so this is a great opportunity for those starting out in photography, for those wanting to increase their skill set, or for those who just want to take better pictures in general.

One of the reasons Kim and I decided to hold a workshop is that we have both felt that seminars and workshops have been the single best source of eduction for us in our own careers. I have not taken photography classes in a school setting because I always felt I could learn as much, if not more, through the hands-on component and direct feedback of the workshop setting -- and in a much quicker fashion. I still attend workshops because I always walk away with something new, with renewed inspiration for my photography and personal goals, and I always learn at least one thing that I did not know before. All of which have been instrumental in building my business and honing my craft.

* * * * *

Here are some of the topics we will be discussing next week:

*The best lenses for the least amount of money for digital SLR cameras (hint: it's not the one that came with the camera)

*How to turn off the flash and achieve professional looking results, even in low light (avoid the "blur" factor)

*The fundamentals of shooting manually (where the magic really happens!)

*Easy lighting tips and techniques to get the best results

*How to get the most out of your Point-and-Shoot (using ISO effectively, burst rate, and more - however we will only discuss point and shoot cameras if we have those attending with them - so far, everyone has a digital SLR)

*The fundamentals of composition (the rule of thirds, framing your subject effectively, reducing your background elements, and more)

*Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom Tutorials -how to manage your workflow and make your images pop

*And much more, including time for open-ended Q&A

If you have any questions, please be sure to send me an email. You can register directly by clicking here.
