Kristin’s Maternity Session

I mentioned a few posts back that I recently photographed another Royal Palms Babymoon Bliss Package maternity shoot. I had the chance to meet Kristin and her husband Darren for their session there and they were just awesome to work with. I love her style and laid back attitude, which really made things fun. They are expecting TWINS and she looks ah-ma-zing!

If you follow my work, you may have noticed over the past several months that I’m really loving the grainy look again… the classic, timeless BW image reminiscent of film.

I loved her yellow scarf and the fresh pop of color it added. Kristin is absolutely beautiful…

Here baby room colors have orange in them, so I can see this being a big canvas on the wall

Jenny’s Maternity Session

If you are a local industry vendor, you may recognize this lovely lady. It is the one and only Jennifer Thye of Imoni Events. Jenny is not only marvelous at what she does, but also a complete joy to be around. Brides & grooms, if you need a wedding planner in the Phoenix metro area, she is among the best!

She also happens to be pregnant with her first child (a girl) and is due any day now. We met up a couple weeks ago at The Royal Palms (thank you again Erin for allowing us to shoot there) to capture a few images of her. Not many of us –myself included– can pull of that beautiful glow so late into our pregnancies when we just want to be done already, but Jenny is one of those who still looked amazing in her 9th month.

Maternity Photo Session

I’m happily announcing with this post that I have officially hired on an associate photographer! Jenny Bishop has joined my team to help photograph sessions when I am unable to and she did a great job on this one! I still process the photos in the way that I would for clients, but it’s a great opportunity for clients who may need sessions on days that I am already booked or would like a more affordable associate rate. Jenny is a wonderful person, excellent with kids, and a great photographer! Im so happy to have her as part of the team now. I will be expanding the associate option for weddings in the near future as well.

Transformation

Pregnancy is such a time of change. Physically, mentally, emotionally, and I would also suggest spiritually. I must admit, this time of metamorphosis is one of the reasons I enjoy shooting maternity sessions. There is an inherent beauty to the transformation; especially in first time mothers, like Molly. (Not that I am trying to imply that ALL of pregnancy is a beautiful moment – there are not-so-fun parts too! ;-)

I had the privilege to meet Molly and her family several weeks ago to photograph her beautiful belly. Here are a few favorites from our session:

Three generations. Her mom and sister were there to be a part of the session as well.

Personally, I find pregnancy to be a time of deep introspection. You dont have the same amount of energy to keep going at break-neck pace, so your body and mind slow you down to the very important job of creating another human being. As a result, I find it this time of change takes you “inside” a great deal. Due to this, my blog posts are slowing down thanks to the fatigue I have been feeling and the need to sleep as much as possible to prepare for the sea of change about to take hold. It’s all good change; just the crysalis before the birth.

Kim’s Belly Shots

A few of you may have already seen some of these image on Kim Jarman’s blog. Kim is a fellow wedding and portrait photographer here in Phoenix and we have become good friends over the years. I was very flattered that she asked me to shoot her pregnancy pictures, as it is always a bit daunting to do work for another photographer (and an awesome one at that). She was also pretty nervous because she kept telling me how much she hates being in front of the camera, but I think she worked it like a natural, and we all got our groove on pretty quickly. Jamie was a total pro as well, as you can see. These two are going to make extremely loving parents. Little Baby “K” (I’m not sure if Kim is publically sharing the name) is going to be one lucky little girl.

Initially we were going to go to Lake Saguaro, but it was that day several weeks ago when it was crazy hot, so we moved it last minute to The Farm at South Mountain, and I was so glad that we did. I was immediately in a backlighting frame of mind there.

I told Jamie, you are supposed to KISS the baby, not BITE the baby :)

They surprised me with this one. I thought they were being all sweet and loving talking face to face and then BAM! Love it.

At the very end, we played around with off camera flash and this was the very first shot, almost an accident with the settings, but it was my favorite.

I had so much fun with you guys! Thanks for putting your trust in me. Maybe someday I’ll be calling on you to take some of me :)

Rachel’s Baby Belly

…And now the follow up to Ava’s post below: Rachel’s belly shots.

I love this girl! And she has the cutest baby belly in the whole world. She delivered little Adeline like maybe 1 week after this shoot. Gosh, I felt like I was her size when I was something like 5 months pregnant 3+ years ago, so I was a tad envious of her super cute belly ;-) In all seriousness, Rachel is a wonderful Mom and has been such a joy to work with.

I mentioned below that she has been helping me with album designs the past several months and does a great job.

So we thought it might be cute to break out Kevin’s firefighter gear and have some fun. Kevin holds the title of one of the cutest pregnant wives ever, because how many of us could pull this off?!

And now back the more sweet, tender side of pregnancy… especially when there is a big sister involved.

And my favorite…I fell in love with this door when I saw it about 2 weeks early and immediately envisioned this shot.

Gretchen’s Pregnancy Session

I’m still here! It’s just been super busy the past week and I’ve been up and down from the Internet world due to the fact that I needed a computer upgrade to handle all these new CS3 programs. So now I’ve got a mega Core 2 Quad Processor with like 700 Gigs of hard drive space (in addition to the 3 external drives I have totalling more than 1000 Gigs)… which runs lightening fast. I didn’t know Lightroom could operate that quickly! :-) Wow, it takes a lot of space to run a photography business! But I’m nearly all set up now and back online 100%

Anyway, I digress…

Here are a few shots of Gretchen, who I had the pleasure of meeting a couple weeks ago when we did her pregnancy session. She and her husband Leonard are expecting a baby boy in a few weeks, whom I’ll also have the pleasure of meeting soon after he arrives.

Shantall’s Pregnancy Session

I met Shantall and her husband Cameron a week or two ago after her girlfriend surprised her with one of my gift certificates for a baby shower gift. These certificates make wonderful presents so they receiver can schedule a session for what ever they may like when they want to. Shantall and Cameron were incredibly nice and trusting. I think we captured some beautiful, classic images of her and them together. Congratulations again you two! You daughter will be very lucky to have you as parents.
